About the Seminar

Immuno-Oncology, the study and development of treatments that take advantage of the body’s immune system to fight cancer.

Cancerous cells are actually quite common in the body. But in healthy individuals, the immune system works to find and fight the formed cancer cells by activating an immune response. This immune response comprises a plethora of factors all aiming to find and destroy cancerous cells. Sometimes though, cancer cells can undergo changes in order to escape the body’s ability to attack them, allowing cancerous cells to grow and spread.

Immuno-Oncology research is looking at how to strengthen or to manipulate the immune system so that immune responses can work effectively again. As a result, the multifactorial immune response, including T cells, should be able to identify and attack many types of cancer.

With this seminar, we aim to introduce you to different aspects of latest developments and novel tools in Immuno-Oncology research. The seminar will cover the impact of live-cell metabolic measurements of immune and cancer cells and how controlling the cell culture microenvironment opens control on primary cell growth and phenotype. Further you will learn how to screen drugs, antibodies or genetic manipulation for their activating potential on immune cells to kill cancer cells.
